Description: 16.09.2007 - Mexico City, Mexico - The weekly bullfighting at the Plaza de Toros ring in Mexico City has seen one of the youngest apprentice matadors in Mexico. Rafael Mirabal - or Rafita Mirabal, as people like to call him - had to jump just to see the ring over the fence.Rafita, who started training to become a Matador when he was only 5-years-old, says his father, Rafael Mirabal, is a life-long fan of bullfighting. Now, six years later, he's about to step into the biggest and one of the most famous bullfighting arenas in Latin America.The 11-year-old faces a smaller bull, or Vaquilla, and although he doesn't give the matador's final death blow with his sword, he faces the same level of danger. Mirabal fights the bull under the watch of two older bullfighters who observe him in the ring but try not to interfere. The animal tossed the boy into the air, swept him to the ground between its horns, and then trampled him, but Rafita stood up immediately while the audience applauded his bravery. At the end of the fight Mirabal left the Plaza surrounded by the crowd applauding him. |
