barbourjohn ::: Favorites If Tony Campolo had studied free market economics in school instead of sociology, he would probably have realized that the best way to help the poor is by having a government that is limited rather than one that is trying to solve all the world's problems. Campolo has fallen victim to the classic mistake of all liberal and other socialistic do-gooders. Who then must help the poor? - A free people such as you and me, particularly the Church of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 07-08-11 12:53:44 __________________________________________________
barbourjohn ::: Favorites The question that surfaced in my mind eventually was; how does one best help the poor? This in turn gave rise to the question; what entity did God establish to do this? The way Campolo and many other liberals answer this is that the U.S. government must have more welfare programs both at home and abroad. The problem with this answer is twofold; first it doesn't work and second, according to the Bible it is not what government was ordained to do (see Romans 13:4 and 1 Peter 2:14). 07-08-11 12:52:59 __________________________________________________
barbourjohn ::: Favorites I used to listen to Tony Campolo when I was younger (20s-early 30s). He appealed to me, especially his emphasis on caring for the poor and needy. I particularly liked his famous sermon, "It's Friday but Sunday's Coming". 07-08-11 12:51:47 __________________________________________________
Albertanator ::: Favorites The fact that the world loves this man so much should give great pause to us as Christians...the world will love its own but hate us who follow Christ! Tony is dangerously loose with the scripture...see his views on homosexuality...or his latest book on 'mysticism'.....while he says good things about helping the hurting of the world, he negates all that by his dangerous trending towards liberalism!! 07-07-20 15:58:29 __________________________________________________
billybillfat ::: Favorites Oh, "sixfigures" assures us that the virgin birth is very important to God. What a dope. Breathtaking hubris. 07-07-19 13:41:54 __________________________________________________

superconvertiblechik ::: Favorites who says the democrat party has a monopoly on helping the poor? making someone dependent is not compassionate. 07-06-22 09:49:20 __________________________________________________
jsharp1701 ::: Favorites Campolo: "Christianity has two emphases. One is a social emphasis to impart the values of the kingdom of God in society - to relieve the sufferings of the poor, to stand up for the oppressed... The other emphasis is to bring people into a personal, transforming relationship with Christ... Fundamentalism has emphasized the latter, mainline churches have emphasized the former. We cannot neglect one for the other." 07-06-17 00:32:18 __________________________________________________
sixfigures1 ::: Favorites I agree 100% "faith without works is dead" But I am concerned with people that we feed others physically and not spiritually. If we do not give a clear and concise gospel message (virgin birth) with our charity, then we are being disobedient, and all we are doing is sending people to hell on a full stomach. 07-06-06 16:44:24 __________________________________________________ |
