Blood and violence is NOT what separates DBZ from other anime. Actually, there are plenty of other anime with more violence, and I doubt you'd think better of them because of that. What makes DBZ a classic is its unique presentation of action leading into a dramatic climax. Of course, there are other anime that shares this quality, but DBZ was the first one to do it.
