mooseboy18 ::: Favorites 2008-01-03 23:11:23 Wow, that takes me back. I'm 35 now, but I still remember this from my early childhood. For a long while I had wanted to find these clips, but could only remember the theme, not that he was "Willie Wimple", or that it was on Sesame Street. So I searched for "anti-litter PSA cartoon", etc. to no avail. Then the other night I remembered that last line, "what an ugly, messy , no-fun world" etc. and Google took me here. Thanks for posting this! Do you have the other 2 Willie Wimples, by any chance? __________________________________________________
afriendofbean ::: Favorites 2008-01-02 20:11:40 I always remembered the Earth and the "Yuck" parts too. I also remember when I saw this Willie Wimple skit from Plaza Sesamo (Sesame Street in Spanish) on the television, instead of saying "Yuck" at the end, the Spanish speaking chorus people said "Blah." __________________________________________________
ironhide2006 ::: Favorites 2008-01-02 09:32:27 the YUCK and paning out to Earth were the only parts that i always remembered. i didn't know anything about the name willie wimple or that were were other cartoons. i do regret searching for this clip again. now it's going to take another 20 years to get the song out of my head. lol __________________________________________________
afriendofbean ::: Favorites 2008-01-01 21:25:57 The only thing on this video clip that scared me when I was very young was when they showed the very messy planet Earth at the end and the chorus said "Yuck." The reason it scared me was because they said "Yuck" a little too loud for me and it was hurting my ears. __________________________________________________
BruDiggity ::: Favorites 2007-12-22 17:23:32 Thanks. But I'm 34, I bounce at a bar and I still won't watch the thing again, Sweetie. Bothered me for weeks. Dunno why. Just did. Maybe it's the liberal in me. __________________________________________________
rmumusicalrob ::: Favorites 2007-12-22 12:49:01 Anybody here watch Family Guy? In the episode "It takes a Village Idiot and I married one", I really think someone could've taken a lesson here. __________________________________________________

bi0boy ::: Favorites 2007-12-20 22:08:03 It sure is great. I never thought it was scary, just that it sent a very powerful message across to SS viewers. If SS didn't have to compete against Barney and all those ridiculously PC shows, Sesame Street probly would've still been as good as it used 2 b __________________________________________________
ironhide2006 ::: Favorites 2007-12-20 18:01:07 this one always bothered me as a child and even today. i wish i never saw this clip in the first place. very disturbing. i get the idea why there were made, but man it scares me. __________________________________________________

jhillst ::: Favorites 2007-11-29 04:25:22 These sketches first aired in 1972. Environmentalism was a huge issue in the early 1970s, and the image of the blackened Earth at the end of these skits was no doubt inspired by the first few images of Earth taken from space, which had been revealed to the public just a few years earlier in 1969. __________________________________________________
BruDiggity ::: Favorites 2007-11-24 15:49:06 I think boys associated themselves with the "good" kids in this, esp. the one who dives in what he thought was water and almost gets seared on the broken glass and garbages. That and what a depressing folksy song. Really gets ya. Gets me to this day. Shit, I wanna kill Willie Whimple still! I'd throw him in the fucking filth he created. __________________________________________________
BruDiggity ::: Favorites 2007-11-24 14:42:33 Disturbing but effective? I remember being saddened and angered. Yeah, I remember getting so bothered by this that I wanted to reach through the TV and beat those kids who were polluting - and i was NOT a violent kid. Then again, I never littered afterward and always respected the environment. So, I guess it did its job. Thanks for all your honest comments guys. __________________________________________________
bethpedone ::: Favorites 2007-11-19 20:39:31 OMG, this brings back sad memories! I used to be inconsolable after watching this... there's another one too, where Willie Wimple goes a'walkin and destroys the landscape. Very 70s. Reminds me of "The Lorax" too. __________________________________________________ |
