Description: As i approach the 2nd anniversary of my Nans death, i cant help remembering what someone told me shortly after. 'time is a great healer' Well? Im still waiting and it still hurts, probably even more than it did at the time because know i know its not a mistake and she is never coming back. I was asked to make this slide show to comemorate her life (hence the title) and looking back now it isnt very good but at the time it was just so damn hard. Add to that the fact that most of the black and white ones needed major reworworking as they were in a terrible state. I remember going through a bottle of 12 year old whiskey in a couple of days because as soon as i started to look at the photos, well you can probably guese. My reason for using the songs i did are simple. My nan was a huge Robson and Gerome fan and would watch Soldier Soldier again and again. Im sure she had a thing for one of them but she would especially enjoy the episode in which they sang this song. It was also used at her funeral as was Eva Cassidy fields of gold so they were an obvious choice. The Nick Berry (Heartbeat) one was easy too as like loads of old people she was also a big fan of that show. Sinead oConnors contribution was my personal choice. Not really a big fan but i just feel the title fits cos nothing DID compare to my Nan. It also helps that its a truly beutiful song. All together now was a collection of people who arent around anymore and if you believe in the afterlife then they are now together. However, some of the people in that part of the slide show are still alive but no longer 'around'. For some bizarre reason shortly after my nans death our family just fell apart and now none of them speak to me, the wife or our kids. Nice eh? Anyway, ive gone on long enough and will close by saying this. I miss you Nan and i love you. |
