Description: I was nine when Trilogy of Terror originally aired in '75 and it had - for lack of a better term- "creepiness that sticks". At least the last part of the three part movie stuck. I couldn't tell you what the first two parts of the movie were about at gunpoint but the last twenty minutes featured a Zuni Fetish Doll on a frenzied murderous rampage. The film was low budget, some of the shots of the doll were lame at best(a notable exception was the one of the doll coming out of the tub with its knife in its mouth - yikes!) and what was Karen Black thinking bringing that thing in the house in the first place? If you're under thirty please remember that the ONLY scary movie out there was 'the Exorcist' and not many 7-11 year-olds' had the opportunity to see it. That is unless you were in my family and faced with the choice of either finding a sitter or suspending good parental judgment for two hours. Thanks Mom! Incidentally, The Exorcist should be viewed in a theater, preferably cranked up really loud, to give your eight year-old that total immersive effect that they won't soon forget. (Okay, I had my eyes shut the last 30 minutes but it was still scary sounding.). What was it about this 'doll' that was 'memorable' you ask? Was it his razor sharp teeth, his "I'm mad and I mean business" scowl, or that almost enviable quality of uncompromising blood lust? Nope, all scary traits but none that make ya go, "Oh yeah, I remember that! That doll freaked me out!" If you had seen it- then, you know it when you hear it- "nay nay nay na na na nananananana!!!!!" The sequel sucked so bad it is beyond the scope of this article. If done correctly it could have easily surpassed the original but it lacked that one critical element - the "nay nay na "thing. So, after watching the sequel, I says to myself "I could do better then that." Two days later this was the result. |

greatturtle ::: Favorites YEs, I remember this when they showed it on tv. I was 5 then and terrified! I kept asking my mom if all dolls came to life that way....needless to say, my distrust in dolls or clowns came to life after I saw this film. Thanks for posting this so I could come to terms with my fear! I'd looked everywhere for this movie and couldn't find it.:) 07-08-12 08:21:03 __________________________________________________ |
